Memorial Service for Anna Marguerite Lockhart Brown will be held Saturday, March 27th, 2010, at The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 806 Concordia Avenue, Vidalia, Louisiana. Visitation starts at 10:00am, the Memorial Service begins at 11:00am with Father Sam Tomlinson and Deacon Rose Kellum. Food & Refreshments will be served at the Church immediately after the service. Anna Marguerite Lockhart Brown was born in Shreveport, LA, on July 24, 1920, to parents Berta Weldon & Lee Lockhart. She graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport and was active in the Methodist Church on campus including cheer leading, yearbook staff and president of her sorority. On August 2, 1942, she married her husband of 67 years, Lieutenant Grover Cleveland Brown. Within 30 days he was sent to Europe as a pilot in the US Air Force. Mrs. Brown worked at Barksdale Air Force Base during the war and received a pilot’s license herself. In 1947 their son Cleve was born followed by Keri Lyn, Steven & Michael. The family moved frequently to include overseas tours in Japan, England & Hawaii. After receiving another degree from the University of Hawaii, Marguerite taught elementary school in Honolulu, Virginia, Tacoma & finished her career at Trinity Episcopal School in Natchez, MS, following Maj. General Brown’s retirement in 1970. Marguerite was gracious hostess & approached every day with courage, determination, humor and love. She was an active member of many organizations, Pilgrimage Garden Club, Natchez Art Association, Krewe of Phoenix and First Families of Mississippi to name a few. Even after Marguerite’s stroke, she continued to be a source of inspiration & love to her family & friends. On December 28, 2010, she had the privilege of receiving the American Flag honoring her late husband, Major General Grover C. Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grover & her three sons, Cleve, Steven & Michael. She is survived by her daughter Keri, son in law John McClellan, 13 grandchildren, Tyler, Sarah, Katie, Olivia, Hobbs, Sims, Justin & Anna Brown, Lee, Medora, Hans & Margaux McClellan, & Joy Hunter. 7 great grandchildren Annalynn & Ella Hunter, Baily & Eli Brown, Jacob Brown & Hayden Torres. One nephew & wife, Bill & Becky Conley of Beaumont, Texas, their children Jennifer, Macy & Jason Conley, who is currently a US Marine serving in Afghanistan, many cousins, caregivers & friends.
