Charles Eugene Miller

Charles Miller Sicily Island, Louisiana, is saddened by the loss of one of its favorite sons. Charles Miller was born on September 9, 1943, to the late B.K. and Artie Garrison Miller and passed from this life on April 9, 2010, at Willis-Knighton Hospital in Bossier City, LA, surrounded by his loving family. Charles graduated from Sicily Island High School in 1961. He worked at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company in Natchez for 12 years. After earning a Master of Arts Degree in Supervision from Northeast Louisiana University, he was employed by the Catahoula Parish School System. He worked as a Teacher and Assistant Principal at Martin Jr. High School and Principal at Sicily Island Elementary School until his retirement. He was respected and loved by his faculties and students. Charles was known for his good personality and quick wit. He always had a story and laugh to share. He loved music and had an extensive collection of his favorite artists. Charles loved spending time at home with his family and friends. He adored his grandsons, Aiden and Owen, and cherished every moment with them. Aiden, 5, loved visiting Papaw and “Honey” in Sicily Island. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 39 years, Evelyn Lefeaux Miller; daughter, Christy Stillwell and husband, Matt; daughter, Charlene Miller and boyfriend Chad Parker; two grandsons, Aiden and Owen Stillwell, all of Shreveport, LA; one brother, Reverend B. K Miller, Jr. and wife Martha Ann of Ruston, LA; one sister, Joy Vaught and husband, Gordon, of Jena, LA; his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lefeaux , of Maringouin, LA; brothers and sisters-in-law in the Lefeaux family; many nieces and nephews, and his canine buddy, Webster. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, Sicily Island, on Saturday, April 10, 2010. A celebration of Charles’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Sicily Island. Interment will be in Haughton at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery at 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church at P. O. Box 509, Sicily Island, LA 71368. The family wishes to thank the numerous doctors, nurses, and staff who have cared for Charles through the years. A special thanks to Dr. Ray Coghlan for honoring Charles’ request to hear him play “Amazing Grace” on his bagpipes. Dr. Coghlan played for him outside his hospital window on Easter Sunday.
