Maggie Prather Walker

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Prather Walker will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Jonesville, Brother Craig James officiating. Burial will follow at Heard Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Jonesville, LA. Mrs. Maggie was born June 20, 1917 in Meadville, MS, and passed away October 16, 2012 at The Columns Community Care Center in Jonesville. Mrs. Maggie lived a long and fruitful 95 years. She passed away on the same day her mother did in 1964. Mrs. Maggie enjoyed working in her garden, fishing, working puzzle books, playing cards and bingo. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years. Mrs. Maggie was the Block High School cafeteria manager for numerous years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Vinnie Prather; her husband, Willie Walker; son, Willie Ray “Snowball” Walker; granddaughters, Katherine Ruth and Karen Rene’ Walker; son-in-law, Donnie Collins; brother and sister-in-law, James and Louise Prather; sister and brother-in-law, Ola and Tommy Smith; and nephew, Jimmy Prather. She was survived by two sons, Clyde Walker and wife Betty; Adron Walker and wife Barbara; one daughter, Shirby Collins; daughter-in-law, Peggy Hemphill; five grandchildren, Robin Pierce and husband Patrick, Chris Collins, Kim Price and husband Eric, Robert Walker, Randall Walker and wife Candice; eight great-grandchildren, Blake and Rachel Richard, Erica Price Hale and husband Frank, Kaitlyn Price, Christopher and Emily Collins, and Carson and Avery Walker; two sisters, Dorothy Mae”Dutchie” Gwin and Lucille Roach, husband W.H. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Robert Walker, Randall Walker, Patrick Pierce, Blake Richard, Chris Collins, and Eric Price. Visitation will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Friends are invited from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family would like say thank you to the staff at The Columns for the special care and extreme kindness always given to “Mama.” “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing. But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.”
