Mamie Etta West ""Grannmommie"" Savoy

Funeral services for Mamie Etta West Savoy "Granmommie", 101 ,of Vidalia, LA will be held at United Methodist Church In Vidalia on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Berry Dennis and Bro. Clyde Ray Webber officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Natchez, MS. under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Vidalia, LA. Mrs. Savoy was born May 10, 1907 in Chamberlin, LA and passed away Tuesday September 23, 2008 at Lady Of The Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. A Home Maker, she enjoyed her gardening, being able to grow anything, was quite well-known for her quilting and cooking. She enjoyed her childeren and their families and guided all with encourgement and keeping the family unit intact. She and her late husband, Jimmy "Gilbert" Savoy began their life together in 1925 where they were married at Whiskey Bay LA. Their union would produce 5 children. In 1937, they moved their family to Ferriday, where he worked for the Corps of Engineers, eventually moving to Vidalia in 1938. The union would last 59 years. She was an active member of Vidalia United Methodist Church until her resent fail in health. Her increadible memory and the stories she could recall druing her 101 years were an inspiration to all who she came into contact with. She was a giving and gentle lady who will be greatly missed by a multitude of family and friends. She was preceded in Death by: husbad-Captin. Whitehead Daughter-in-law-Ann Hoggatt Savoy Daughter-in-law-Hattie Scott Savoy 2 brothers and 3 sisters Survivors include: Daughter-Etta Lee and husband Jack Bryan of Baker, La. Son-Clyde Joseph Savoy of Vidalia, La. Daughter-Kathleen Savoy Whitehead of Vidalia, La. Son-Curtis C. Savoy of Ferriday, La. She was also survived by 16 grandchildren 44 great grandchildren 42 great-great grandchildren The Pallbearers will be George "Web" Whitehead, Jimmy Savoy, Danny Savoy, Andy Bryan, Brad Bryan,Curtis "Bubba" Savoy and Joe Savoy. The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home Vidalia, La. from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, September 26, 2008 and from 11:00 to 1:00, Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at the funeral home.
