Marie Davis Blunschi

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Blunschi, 86, of Ferriday, LA will be held 10:00 AM on Thursday March 10, 2011 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Louis Sklar officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2011 with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM. Mrs. Blunschi was born on October 27, 1924 in Jonesville, LA to Mr. “G” and Laura Davis. She passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria. She was a resident of Ferriday and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mom was, kind, strong, compassionate, understanding, creative, spirited, and God loving matriarch of our family and will be deeply missed. She was the co-owner with her husband the late Dr. John E. Blunschi, Jr. of the Ferriday Animal Hospital. She loved to be outside in her yard tending to her flower garden. She was the past president and honorary member of the Ferriday Garden Club and president of the Ferriday High School Band Booster, served on the Concordia Parish School Board and was chosen Mother of the Year for the Ferriday Dixie Youth Baseball. She loved to have her family around her especially during Christmas time when she would gather everyone together and read The Christmas Story to the entire family. Family reunions were also a time that she enjoyed immensely. Being able to reconnect with family brought her great joy. She was preceded in death by: her Husband Dr. John E Blunschi, Jr. her parents, four brothers John Davis, Pete Davis, Eddie Davis, Alton J. Davis one sister Velma Poole. Survivors include: Six sons: Johnny Blunschi and wife Stephanie of Ferriday, Sam Blunschi and wife Katie of Baton Rouge Mike Blunschi and wife Glenda of Baton Rouge Ricky Blunschi and wife Amy of Ferriday Paul Blunschi and wife Renita of West Monroe Woodie Blunschi and wife Jenny of Ferriday Two daughter-Mary Satterfield and husband Steve of Santa Ana, CA Becky McMath and husband Dean of Ft. Worth, TX Sister Mamie Simon of Jonesville Brother Woodie Davis of Ferriday She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her six sons.
