Mildred Bynum Edmonds

Funeral services for Mildred Bynum Edmonds will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday January 28, 2012 at The First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island with Rev. Howard Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Old Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday. Mildred Bynum Edmonds, 85, passed away at her home on January 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mildred was born in Mississippi on July 22, 1926, to the union of John Bynum and Flora McIver Bynum. She graduated from Prentiss High School and received her teaching degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island. Mildred came to Sicily Island in 1948 as a beginning teacher. She met and married Bruce A. Edmonds, who preceded her in death in 2002. Mildred retired from the Catahoula Parish School Board where she was a teacher and longtime bookkeeper and secretary. She was the executive secretary and right hand to many of the parish superintendents. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Edmonds; her parents, John and Flora Bynum; one brother, Jimmy Bynum; and one sister, Lois Livingston. She is survived by one sister, Louise Luper of Ridgeland, Ms.; two daughters, Mary Steele Edmonds of Fairhope, AL., Deborah Borquist of Hot Springs Village, Ar.; three sons, David Edmonds and wife, Shelley of Birmingham, AL., John Edmonds and wife, Sherry of Shreveport, LA. and AL Edmonds and wife, Candy of Sicily Island, LA.; She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Mikey Brazell, Jerrad Edmonds, Katy Edmonds, Matthew Edmonds, Adam Edmonds, Allye Brazell and Jay Edmonds; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Edmonds. The family would like to thank her longtime family doctor and favorite student, Dr. Billy Coney and her two caretakers Bonnie Phillips and Betty Wisner for their devotion and love. They also wish to thank Hospice TLC of Winnsboro for their care during her last days. Pallbearers will be John Rife and her grandsons, Mikey Brazell, Jerrad Edmonds, Matthew Edmonds, Adam Edmonds and Jay Edmonds. Family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church of Sicily Island from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
