Graveside service for Obye Jo Simmons, 91 of Vidalia,LA will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2PM with Rev. Ralph Webber, Rev. Larry Whittington, and David Taylor officiating, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Obye Jo Simmons was born on Friday, August 13, 1926 in Orlando, FL and passed away Thursday, April 05, 2018 in Texas. She was a resident of Miss Lou for over 50 years. She loved working in her flower beds, having fun with family and friends at the lake and loved doing missionary work with The Kingdom Builders. Obye Jo was a member of Ferriday Garden Club, Ferriday Community Club and a member of Vidalia First Baptist Church, adn a Pink Lady for Riverland Medical Center. She was a former employee of Big Joe Oil Company for 12 years and Deputy Sheriff Coordinator for the 911 system in Concordia. She was the previous owner of Dairy Bar and Gulf Station in Vidalia for many years with her husband Elwood Simmons. Obye Jo will always be remembered for her service to Concordia Parish and will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband- Frank Elwood Simmons; daughter- Claudia & husband John Cooper of Jena, LA; parents- Joel & Claude Carr of Bogalusa, LA; 5 brothers- Billy, Ralph, George, Joel Jr., and Nunny Carr; sister- Anna Lou Kivette; and great-granddaughter- Sarah Cowan. Survivors include: daughter- Derinda Smith & husband Ricky of Vidalia, LA; 2 grandsons- Stephen Cowan & wife Kim of Houston, TX and Michael Cowan & wife Chasity of North Dakota; 2 granddaughters- Ashley Elveston of Natchez, MS, and Alicia Mitchell & husband Michael Jay of Natchez, MS; 10 great-grandchildren- Cody & wife Lindsey Cowan, Savannah, Cole, Cory, Selah, Maggie and Joel Cowan, Kaitlyn & husband Adam Sherman, Hayden & wife Tayllor Cowan, and Braxton Elveston; and 9 great-great grandchildren- Kilie and Carson Cowan, Chloe Cowan and Cole Butler, Jensen and Jamison Sherman, and Chloe Curlee, Savanna and Starlyn Mitchell. She is also survived by her lifelong friend Nell harrell of Vidalia, LA and a special friend- James Pratt of Vidalia, LA. Pallbearers will be Employees of Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren and Arthur Lewis. The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday, LA on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 12:30 until 1:15PM.
