Robin Butts (Harris)

Robin Harris Butts, 86, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at her home on Helena Plantation in Waterproof. Funeral Services will be held at the chapel of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dave Sheehun officiating, with interment to follow at Natchez City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 23, from 5-7pm at Young's. Mrs. Butts was born in Memphis, TN. on July 4, 1922, to the late Dr. and Mrs. Robin Harris of Jackson, MS and was married to the late Henry Fowler Butts. She graduated from Charleston High School in Mississippi before attending Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She graduated with majors in Chemistry and Bacteriology from Mississippi State University, where she was also a memeber of the Maroon Band and the Chi Omega Sorority. Prior to working as a Meidcal Technologist at the New Orleans' Ochsner Clinic, Mrs. Butts completed a Medical Technology internship at Street-Mercy Hospital. She was always a supporter of young people through the Boy Scouts, 4-H Club, Children of the American Revolution, and serving as a girls' softball coach. She was a liffetime member of the Waterproof High School Quarterback Club, a member of the TensasAcademy Athletic Association, and a member of the Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. Mrs. Butts was also a charter member of the Bruin-Vidal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, holding serveral offices including State Treasurer, State Regent, National Vice Chairman of Conservation, Reporter General to the National Society of DAR, and National Chairman of Insignia. She was an avid conservationist, having won the National DAR Conservationist Award, and loved all forms of sports and wildlife. Mrs. Butts is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ed and Bernadette Butts of Fairfield, CT, her daugher and son-in-law Ann and Dennis Burns of Waterproof, LA granddaughter Robin Rae Burns of Clinton, MS and granddaughter and her husband libbi and Ryan Calloway of Little Rock, AR. Survivors also include sisters Fisher Kortz of Bristish Columbia, Nancy Ann Harris and Harley and Joh Williams of Annapolis, MD. She preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Jeff Harris and Richard Harris. Pallbearers will be Lucas Harris, James Lentz, James Clower, Bobby James, Darrell Vandeven, Don Magee, Jr., Bryant Killen, Tru Goddman. Memorials may be made to Tensas Academy and Wesley Chapel.
