Sam Otis Leake Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Sam Leake, Jr. 80, of Newellton, La. will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Newellton Union Church in Newellton, La. with Bro Larry Foster and Bro Johnny Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday. Mr. Leake was born on March 19, 1931 in Woodville Ms. to Sam Otis and Jane Trevillion Leake. He passed away on Friday June 3, 2011 in Vicksburg, MS. Mr. Sam was a Farmer and a member of the Newellton Union Church in Newellton. Mr. Leake played football for the LSU Fighting Tigersl team from 1949 to 1953, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as Lieutenant, he was a school teacher and football coach at Davidson High School, past president and one of original founders of Tensas Co-op Gin, president of Tensas Warehouse, past president of Louisiana Cotton Producers Association, active in the National Cotton Council. He was on the Louisiana Ag. Corporation Board, past board member of the Farm and Livestock Credit Association, member of local and state Farm Service Agency Committees and a member of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sam O. Leake Sr. and Jane Leake; four brothers, Oscar Leake, Joe Leake, Ken Leake and Clyde Leake; one sister, Zadie Branyon and husband, Bob; one sister-in-law, Camille Leake; one brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Lee; and brother and sister-in-law, Cush and Joyce Watson. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Tommie Jean Leake of Newellton; two sons, Trey Leake and Curt Leake and wife, Traci all of Newellton; two grandchildren, Jordan and David Leake of Newellton; one brother, Leo Leake of Columbia, Ms.; two sisters, Lu Leake of Winston Salem, N.C. and Huldah Massey and husband, Joe of Tyler, Texas; five sisters-in-law, Billie Leake, Norma Leake, Imo Leake, Bobbye Ann Lee and Sheryl Kifer and husband, Dan; and many special nieces and nephews. The Pallbearers will be Benny Lee, Don Leake, Gary Massey, John Leake, Kenny Leake and Marvin Leake. The Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Burnside Sr. and Kenneth Methvin. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to time of service at Newellton Union Church in Newellton, La.
