Funeral services for Bessie Steele Belcher, 74 of Pride, LA will be held at Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Bro. Tony Ganey officiating. Interment will follow at New Era Baptist Church, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Bessie Nell Belcher died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 22, 2017 surrounded by her loving daughters and husband, Dennis. She was born on Friday, January 1, 1943 in Pineville, LA. Bessie was loved dearly by friends and family and never said no if someone was in need. She loved working in the garden and keeping up her flowers. When she visited family, she always wanted to look at the yard before going inside. The first conversation would be about what cuttings she wanted or what flowers she could share to make something prettier. She spent most of her early years as a hair dresser and ended her work life caring for others. There was no challenge too great if she set her mind to it, and she would not take no for an answer-she always found a way. Her older siblings share stories of her as a young girl pitching a fit to get her way. She was the baby of the family and was loved by everyone. Bessie loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren beyond measure. She was preceded in death by Father- Manuel Ernest Flaherty Mother- Vera Pruitt Flaherty Husband- Wesley Steele Son- Richard "Ricky" Steele Sr. Brother- W.L. Adams Sister- Marilyn Laborde She is survived by Husband- Dennis Belcher of Pride, LA Daughter- Patricia Steele of Pride, LA Daughter- Rhonda Hotard and her husband Bennett of Convent, LA Step Daugher- Catherine Nations of Branch, LA Step Son- Edward James Belcher 3 Grandsons- Wesley Rabb, Richard Steele Jr, and Jordan Hotard 4 Granddaughters- Wendy Steele, Linsey Edwards and her husband Tony, Hanna Steele and Jessica Hotard 5 Step Grandchildren Great Grandchildren- Aja and Neiko Assad, Layla and Kenny Edwards, and Lauren Rabb Brother-Winston Flaherty and his wife Connie of Bossier City, LA Sister- Nelda Burnette and her husband Bobby of New Era, LA Pallbearers will be Leighton Lipsey, Gerald Flaherty, Dean Burnette, Daron Burnette, Glenn Laborde and Trey Burnette. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordan Hotard, Wesley Rabb, Tony Edwards, Richard Steele Jr. and Bennett Hotard. The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home from 5:00 PM til 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
