Lemar Cruse

Lamar Bruce Cruse was born in Harrisonburg, Louisiana on December 9, 1931. He was the son of John Wesley Cruse and Gussie Madge Morris of Harrisonburg. He is survived by his beloved sisters Madge Cruse Allbritton and Bonnie Cruse Oliphant and husband Robert and special friend Carolyn Laing. Lamar married Bobbie Rae McKay and they enjoyed 50 years together. She passed away in September 2004. They are survived by their daughters, Marcia Davis and husband, Lee, son, Stephen Cruse and wife, Andrea, Daughter, Tammie Heafner and husband, Manny; and a host of grandchildren, Jeffery Davis, Teal Carpenter, Tiffany Davis Konick, Jessica Davis, Stephanie Cruse, Mattie Cruse and Holly Heafner; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Konick. Lamar was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church where he served for several years as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served his community as caretaker of Heard Cemetery. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1951 where he cherished memories of friends, teachers and basketball. He was an active member of the Catahoula Cattlemen’s Association. Lamar served his country in the USAF for 26 years retiring rank SMSGT and as a veteran of the Veteran War. He then returned to Harrisonburg where he and his wife Bobbie became owners of Wallace Ridge Grocery and manager of the Gulf bulk Plant in Jonesville. Service will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Pisgah Baptist Church in Manifest, Louisiana. Interment will follow at Heard Cemetery in Manifest under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville. Pallbearers are Kenny Crawford, Jason Hardie, Roy Nelson, Den McKeithen, Rowdy Ryland, Teal Carpenter, Jeffery Davis, Richard Netterville, Russell Wright, and E.J. Konick. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Wright, Jack Coleman, Charles Pentecost, Melvin Humble, Ronald “Red” Renfrow, Joe Holloway, Douglas Rainey, Pete Prudhomme, E.C. Meyers Jr., Huey Meyers, Bud Wright, Sam Mason and Wendal Birkicht. The family will receive friends from Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville, La.
