Sidney Lamar Wyles

Sidney Lamar Wyles, Jr., 65 year resident of Harrisonburg, Louisiana, passed away after lengthy illness on June 30, 2015 at the age of 83. Lamar is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine White Wyles; his children, Wanda Wyles Spurlock and husband Fred; Linda Wyles Smith and husband Randy; Sandy Wyles Head and husband Tommy; eight grandchildren, Amber Smith Gernt, Rachael Boughton Higginbotham, Matthew Boughton, Trent Delhoste, Keith Boughton, Suzanne Spurlock, Staci Spurlock and Kelle Head Ogilvie and eight great-grandchildren. He leaves three sisters, Margeret Henderson, Marji Wyles and Ruby Friend and husband Ron; one brother, Frank Leo Wyles and his wife Elna: In-laws, Shirley White Prudhomme and husband Clarence, Harold White and wife Kay and Katherine Wright Wyles, and numerous nieces and nephews; all of whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Lamar Wyles, Sr. and Annie Belle Corbin Wyles; and his brother Charles E. (Billy) Wyles. Lamar served his country in the U.S. Army. Afterwards, he made a career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Martyn Brothers Consulting before retiring. He was an active member of the Harrisonburg Masonic Lodge #110 for 58 years. He loved hunting, fishing, football, and was an accomplished musician. He loved and served his church and it was one of the most important aspects of his life, serving as a deacon for most of his adult life. His contributions to his God, his family, his friends and his community are too numerous to begin to count. A visitation is set to be held at the First Baptist of Harrisonburg, on Thursday, July 2, from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Friday morning, July 3 at 10:00 A.M. with Bro. Reid Terry officiating. Burial to follow at Heard Cemetery, Manifest, LA under the direction of Youngs Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Matthew Boughton, Trent Delhoste, Keith Boughton, Todd Higginbotham, Kerry White, A.J. Gernt, Shane Bass and Joe Hisdon. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg, Shriners Hospital or LA Baptist Childrens Home in Monroe, LA. Lamar was a man of few words and much action. He will be missed by all who knew him and will be forever loved.
